About Abate Landscaping

The light that reaches Hudson Park comes in off Long Island Sound already softened by water, and by seven o'clock it is lying flat and pale across the lawns of New Rochelle. Abate Landscaping works in that hour, when dew still holds the wheel tracks and a mower leaves its clean parallel bands behind it. Lawn care this close to salt water means reading each yard's private weather — the bright wind-scoured south side, the deep oak shade a block inland — and cutting to what the grass actually wants. There is a plain satisfaction in the last pass along a walkway, when the edge comes up straight as a chalk line and the clippings are swept back onto the green where they belong. From the shoreline streets inland toward Larchmont and Pelham, the aim never changes: a yard that looks looked-after from the curb.
