Route 21 climbs hard out of the Naples valley, and in January the squalls come off Canandaigua Lake and hang on those hills long after the flats have cleared. Renew-It plows the driveways and lots up and down that grade — opening them early, setting the snow uphill of the drive so the melt does not run back and freeze across it, and returning when another band sets in. Walks and steps are shoveled and sanded, and the shaded stretches near the glens hold ice the longest, so those get watched. Bristol Hills winters are steep-road winters, and traction is what everyone is really asking for. A cleared, gritted drive on a gray morning is worth the early start.
