April rain along the eastern edge of the city, where the Hutchinson runs, and the grass comes up almost overnight. V and C Landscaping meets that head-on — the first cut of the year, the cleanup that clears winter out of the beds, the trimming, the edging, and the whole pile hauled away. The soil here is generous and the growing season is long, so it is the weekly return through summer that holds the line. There is a real pleasure in the first mow of spring: gray becomes green in one afternoon. The rest of the year is keeping that promise.
