In November the carriage roads of the Rockefeller preserve go quiet and copper, and the lawns down in Mount Pleasant start their long handover to winter. E Pani Landscape Service inc meets that turn twice over: hauling out the last of the leaves, then coming back in January to push snow off the same driveways it mowed in July. Fall cleanup done properly leaves a yard looking scrubbed — beds clear, corners emptied, grass short enough to survive under a drift. Winter's measure is simpler and just as real: a plowed drive, a shoveled path to the door, salt down before the melt refreezes at dusk. Then April arrives, the mowers come back out, and the weekly cut resumes as if it never stopped.
