The Saranac River runs through Morrisonville on its way to Champlain, and the cold that follows it down out of the mountains in January is a north-country cold — dry, bright, serious. EverGreen Landscaping & Excavation meets it with plows and shovels, opening driveways and walkways and treating the ice that every Clinton County thaw leaves behind. In the short green months the work turns to mowing, trimming, edging and cleanups, packed into a growing season that knows it is on a clock. There is pride in both halves: a lawn cut even under that wide northern light, a drive opened before the school buses come through. Between Plattsburgh and the foothills the weather sets the schedule, and the work keeps it.
