The old towpath along the Keuka Lake Outlet runs from Penn Yan out toward Dresden, water on one side and hemlock shade on the other, and in October the whole corridor turns the color of cider. Milo's lawns take that season hard, filling with maple and oak faster than anyone can keep up with by hand. Benedict Landscaping works straight through it — mowing while the grass still grows, then clearing leaves off turf and beds until the green shows underneath again. Winter is easier on a yard that went into it clean. When the thaw comes, the same hands are back for the spring pickup, opening the year the way they closed it.
