Honeoye Creek drops through the middle of the village in a white stair of water, and by mid-October the old mill streets above it are ankle-deep in maple. Village Garden Store Ltd works the lawns on those blocks and the properties out along the town roads, mowing right through to the final cut of the year, trimming close, then clearing the leaves before the first hard frost pins them down. Across the summer it is a weekly rhythm: cut, trim, border, walks swept off. Beds get weeded and tidied so the plantings read clearly against the grass. A Mendon lawn that looks composed in every month of the year is the whole ambition.
