West of the village, Culvert Road ducks beneath the Erie Canal — water running overhead, gravel under the tires — the only road in the state that goes under it. Houseman's Landscaping works the ground on either side. In October the maples let go all at once and the leaf hauling begins; by December the same trucks carry blades, opening driveways and lots and cutting a path to the door. The warm months mean mowing on a steady rotation, trimming, and beds kept sharp against the grass. It is ordinary work done properly, and a Medina street with every drive open by breakfast is the proof of it.
