Snow squalls track down the Sacandaga valley before dawn and can white out the road between Mayfield and Vail Mills in a matter of minutes. MD Preservation gets out ahead of that — plowing driveways and lots, clearing walks and steps by hand, salting and sanding the spots that glaze first, and coming back when the wind refills what was just opened. Winter in the southern Adirondacks is measured in weeks rather than storms, and the properties that stay usable are the ones somebody keeps reopening. Banks get stacked back off the sightlines so the pull-out onto the road stays honest. A drive cleared to the pavement before sunrise is the entire point of the job.
