Massapequa keeps one foot in the water — canals threading the south end, the Great South Bay flat and silver beyond them, and the long green ribbon of the Preserve running north past its ponds and pitch pine. Design and Build landscape tends lawns on both sides of Merrick Road: weekly mowing, borders cut sharp along bluestone and curb, hedges and shrubs shaped back into line, mulch refreshed in the beds. Salt air and sandy soil make their own demands here, and a South Shore lawn shows every week it was skipped. Spring cleanups clear the winter sand; autumn means leaves off the beds and off the grass before a nor'easter packs them flat. On a June morning with the bay breeze coming up Massapequa Creek, a freshly cut yard on these blocks is a small and complete pleasure.
