Manorville's ground is old pine-barrens sand — quick to drain, quick to dry, and unforgiving of a lawn nobody looks after. The Lawn Barber works those yards the way the name suggests: an even cut, a clean part along the walk, trimming close where scrub oak crowds a fence line. Nor'easters come in off the Atlantic with wet, heavy snow, and the plow goes out to open driveways and cut a path to the door. Between the expressway and the headwaters of the Peconic, this is a town of long lots and generous shoulders. Every one of them looks better with a straight line mown into it.
