The first real mow of a Lysander year comes the week the dandelions take the place over, usually right after the last cold snap blows down from the north. SW Mowing starts there and does not stop until frost — weekly cutting, string trimming, edging, and the cleanups that follow a Central New York spring and autumn. Mornings on the flats near Jack's Reef begin under fog off the Seneca River, and the mower leaves a dark track through the wet where it has already been. The job is simple and it is never finished, which is most of its appeal. A cut lawn is one of the few things a person can put completely right in an afternoon.
