By early November the light over the Big Bridge goes flat and silver by four in the afternoon, and Lockport starts listening for the first squall. Middleton Lawn and Snow lives on both sides of that turn — mowing, trimming and seasonal cleanups while the grass still runs, then plowing, shoveling and salting once the ground gives up its warmth. A driveway opened before the alarm rings is its own small kindness in a town where winter mornings begin dark and cold. Come April the trucks trade blades for mowers and the year starts over at the beginning. Two seasons, one crew, the same properties looked after all the way around the calendar.
