Locke lies where the hills fold down to the Owasco Inlet, dairy country, Route 38 threading north through the valley toward Moravia. Spring arrives late up here and then all at once, and the grass comes on fast in the bottomland. Damon's Construction LLC handles the lawn end of things through those months — mowing, trimming, edging, brush and overgrowth cut back, cleanups hauled off in spring and again in fall. On a hillside lot the pleasure is watching a shaggy piece of ground turn into something with edges again: even height, clear fence lines, the driveway swept behind us. It is a small county-road town with a lot of ground to keep, and keeping it is the work.
