Green Blades

About Green Blades

In Leeds the Catskill Creek runs under an old stone arch, and by the middle of May the grass on both banks is coming up faster than anyone can keep ahead of. Green Blades mows the hamlet's yards and the wider lots along 23B toward Catskill and Cairo, cutting on a rhythm rather than a whim, trimming close to posts and foundations, running the edger until the walk shows its own line again. Afternoon light here drops off the mountains early, so the last stripes of a job get laid down in that long gold, which is when a lawn looks the way it was meant to. October brings the maples down all at once along the creek road, and those leaves get gathered rather than left to smother the turf. Plain work, taken to the finish — that is the whole of the offer.
