A night squall on Route 11 turns the world into two headlight cones and a wall of moving white. Junk Guy of NNY runs plow routes through it — Le Ray driveways, apartment lots and walkways pushed open and shoveled, sand and salt down where the packed ruts have gone glassy. The lake-effect belt does not so much deliver snow as install it, band after band, so clearing is never one job but a night's worth of returns. There is a plain pride in the moment the blade drops and a buried drive turns back into a driveway. Morning comes, the coffee is somewhere warm, and the way out is open.
