Out where the old LeRaysville road runs past cut-stone foundations and lilacs gone wild, the lawns have shape to them — a little sloped, framed by trees somebody planted a long time ago. Frederick's Home and Lawn tends that ground: mowing, trimming, edging, and the spring and fall cleanups that give an older place its outline back. Autumn is the real test in Le Ray, when the maples let go all at once and a yard vanishes under gold in one windy afternoon. Rake it out and the grass comes through better, greener at the far end of a long white season. Good ground repays attention, and attention is most of the job.
