Ironwood grows in the hedgerows along the Sawkill, and it earns the name in January, when the cold turns serious and everything softer gives. Ironwood Landscaping runs snow for Kingston through that stretch — plowing driveways and lots, opening walks and doorways, salting and sanding where ice keeps coming back. Deep storms want repeated passes; the little three-inch ones still want pavement by morning. What gets left behind is a drive with square edges and no ridge across the apron. Then the headlights swing back out onto the road.
