Scenery Your Way

About Scenery Your Way

West of Jamestown the land lifts into ridge and hollow — woodlots, grape rows, the rock ledges out toward Panama — and September lays a gold edge along all of it. Scenery Your Way takes that as the brief: a yard composed the way a view is composed, lawn and beds and shrubs arranged so the eye has somewhere to travel. Mowing and edging hold the frame; mulching, weeding and shrub shaping fill it in; seeding thickens the thin places before the cold arrives. The autumn cutback strips things down to bones, so the winter silhouette is worth looking at too. From the city blocks out to Ashville, Busti and Panama, it is one idea repeated — make the ground look like it was meant that way.
