December wind coming down the whole length of Chautauqua Lake arrives at the shore roads with an afternoon of snow behind it. Lake Shore Paving takes the winter side of the work from there, plowing driveways and lots, clearing aprons and turnarounds, shoveling walks, spreading salt where a slope drains and then freezes again after dark. Pavement is what this work is built around, and in January that means getting all the way down to it. From Bemus Point back into the city the aim never changes: black surface underfoot, room to turn a vehicle around, and a clear way out to the road.
