Downtown Ithaca is a compact grid set between two hills — brick blocks, street trees, and the Commons running right through the middle of it. Whitham Planning Design Landscape Architecture, PLLC keeps lawns and green space in and around that core: mowing the pocket yards and setbacks, trimming along walls and walks, edging where turf meets pavement so the boundary reads as deliberate. In a place this walkable everything is seen up close, and a clean edge does as much for a block as anything larger. The work runs from the first mow of April through the last leaf gathering of November. Between those, it is the ordinary weekly attention that keeps a piece of ground looking intended.
