Carson Irrigation, Lighting, and Groundworks

About Carson Irrigation, Lighting, and Groundworks

Winter comes early to the hills above Cayuga, and the dark comes earlier still — by four in the afternoon the lake is a gray plate and the road home has gone white again. Carson Irrigation, Lighting, and Groundworks runs the plow through those nights, opening Ithaca driveways while most of the town is asleep. There is a quiet pride in the drive that is already clear at six in the morning, the walk shoveled right to the door, the mailbox reachable without wading. Lake-effect bands drift down off Cayuga and lay three inches in an hour, so the route gets run again, and then again. Snow here is not an event so much as a long conversation, and this is one way of answering it.
