On summer release days the gates at Lake Abanakee open and a cold pulse of water runs down the Indian River toward the Hudson gorge — Indian Lake keeps its own timetable, and so does Keller Landscapes. The mowing routes here thread between camps, cabins and year-round houses tucked back in the pines, each with its own turnaround and its own soft shoulder. Trimming and edging define the ground people actually use: the path to the door, the ring around the fire pit, the border of a gravel drive. Spring cleanups clear the sand and blowdown a long winter leaves behind, and autumn raking races the maples down along the lake road. By the time the color peaks and the visitors arrive, the yards are ready for them.
