The old Feeder Canal runs quiet along the edge of Hudson Falls, level as a ruled line while the rest of the country tilts north into the mountains. Adirondack Outdoor Services works both halves of the year along it: mowing, trimming, edging, mulching and seasonal cleanups while the grass runs, then plowing, shoveling and salting through the long cold end of it. Washington County winters are not brief, and a drive that stays open all the way to March takes someone who keeps showing up. Summer's reward is a straight cut line; winter's is bare pavement at seven in the morning. Hudson Falls, Fort Edward, Kingsbury and the towns nearby are covered.
