April in Hoosick Falls is a mess before it is anything else — winter's sand still along the shoulders, grass lying flat and matted, the Hoosic running high and the color of tea. Landscaper begins the year in that mess, raking it out, hauling it off, and getting the first cut down as soon as the ground firms. From there it is mowing on a schedule, trimming, edging, and leaf work once the maples let go. When the season turns, the same trucks come back with plows to open driveways and walks and lay salt where the grade calls for it.
