October is Hilton's month — apples coming in, the Apple Fest tents up in the village, and every maple on the side streets letting go at once. NH Landscaping works the leaf season here, raking and hauling, taking the last mow low so lawns go into winter clean. Beds get cut back and windrows of leaves are pulled off the grass before the first wet snow presses them flat. Come April the work turns around: spring cleanup, mulch, and the first cut of the year. A yard that has been put to bed properly shows it the following May, and that is the part nobody sees but everybody notices.
