Before there were streets here there was grass — the Hempstead Plains, an honest prairie spread across the middle of Nassau, and a last surviving piece of it still leans in the wind out by Mitchel Field. Grass Masters LI Landscaping takes its name seriously on ground with that history. The work is the weekly cut held at a height the turf can carry, the trimming and edging that give it a border, feeding through the growing months and overseeding where traffic and sun have thinned it out. Cleanups bracket the year at both ends so nothing smothers what is trying to come up. There is a particular satisfaction in a lawn that looks deliberate on land that was grassland long before anyone owned a mower.
