When the Wallkill lowlands run high in March, the lawns above them come out of winter matted and gray, and the year's work begins right there. Spring cleanup pulls the sand and broken twigs out of the turf, beds get cut fresh, and the first mow of April sets the line for everything that follows. From then on it is weekly mowing, trimming, edging and cleanup, week over week, with hedges kept in shape as they push new growth. A yard flattened by snow in February can be standing up green by the middle of May. Getting it there is the good part of this job.
