Four in the morning in February, and the fog off Eighteenmile Creek has already frozen onto the mailboxes. The plow goes out regardless — driveways opened end to end, walks shoveled down to bare concrete, ice treated where the shade holds it all day — so the first car out leaves on clean pavement. Come May the same trucks are carrying mowers, and Hamburg yards get their weekly cut, their trimmed fence lines, their edges reset after a long winter of plow blades. Cleanups bookend the whole thing, spring and fall. Two kinds of work, one crew, the same roads either way.
