The Battenkill runs past Greenwich clear and quick, and the village lawns along it hold the damp well into a June morning. Mac's Landscaping waits for the dew to lift, then mows, edges the sidewalks back to their true line, and trims tight around porch posts and picket fences on the side streets. Beds are mulched in spring so the perennials come up out of something dark and even. Autumn is leaves off the maples that arch over the streets, cleared in passes until the grass shows through again. It is ordinary work carried all the way into the corners, and a village block is better for it.
