Ridge Road follows an old lakeshore — a beach the glaciers walked away from, now a highway with driveways feeding off it in every direction. ACES Plowing works those driveways at three in the morning, when Greece is nothing but streetlight and falling white. Plowing, clearing walkways and salting the slick spots is the whole of the job, and the whole of the job matters: the car backs out, the day begins, nobody has to think about it. That is exactly the point. By the time the sky goes gray over Lake Ontario, the blade has already been down the same street twice.
