Snow changes what a hill means. On the slopes between Glen Cove and Sea Cliff, a few inches turn an ordinary driveway into a problem that has to be solved before dawn. Impressionnant view solves it with plowing, shoveled walks and steps, and salt worked into the grades so tires can find something to hold. Storms come off the Sound and land heaviest on these streets, then the wind fills back in whatever was just cleared. Opening a drive, and opening it again after the plow berms it shut, is the entire job and it is worth doing all the way.
