Bennett Over Backwards

About Bennett Over Backwards

Some summer mornings the Genesee valley below Geneseo fills with fog right to the brim, and Main Street sits above it like a shoreline. Bennett Over Backwards works the whole calendar under that sky, mowing, trimming and edging through the green months, clearing yards when the year opens and again when it closes, then plowing, shoveling and salting once the valley turns blue and short-lit. A steep village driveway taken down to bare pavement is worth as much in January as a sharp-edged lawn is in July. Geneseo asks for both, sometimes inside the same fortnight. Doing them well is the same habit wearing different boots.
