South of the village the road climbs toward Glenmere Lake, and in October the ridge above Florida turns all at once, sugar maple first, then oak, then the long brown hush after. Leaf work in that stretch is the season's real labor: lawns cleared, walks swept, beds emptied of the piles the wind chose for them. The rest of the year runs on steady mowing and trimming, cut after cut, with the edges recut so the walks keep their line into November. Spring comes back fast on this Orange County ground, wet and thick and ready to grow. The good part is handing back a yard that looks like nobody had to fight for it.
