The towpath along the Erie Canal in Fairport is empty at six in the morning except for mist coming off the water and somebody's dog. JVS Outdoor Services keeps that kind of hour — grass cut, edges trimmed and cleanups finished before the village is properly awake in summer, drives and walks opened before it wakes in winter. Rochester weather commits to nothing, so the work stays flexible and the equipment stays ready. There is genuine pleasure in finishing a property while the light is still gray and knowing it will look that way all day. Both halves of the year get the same treatment.
