Winspear Road at first light. A band has come in off Lake Erie overnight and left eight inches without asking anybody. Premier Blacktop and Landspace is already at it — plowing driveways and parking areas around Elma, opening steps and walks, salting the entries. The wind out here keeps refilling whatever you just moved, so the crew comes back around. By the time the sun actually shows itself the pavement is dark and wet and passable, and that is the entire point of the morning.
