When the wind sets up off Lake Erie in January, Ellery gets the kind of snow that erases a driveway between supper and morning. Robert Perry Landmark Enterprises runs the plow routes through it, opening drives and lots, clearing walks, laying salt on ice hiding under the fresh inch, then coming back around when the band swings through a second time. Opening every route before the first commuter turns a key is the reason for the early alarm. Then the melt arrives, the sand is raked out, and the same properties get mowed, trimmed and edged straight through to the fall cleanup. One town, both halves of the calendar, the same routes coming back around.
