Syracuse took its old nickname from the salt springs at the foot of the lake, and the name still fits a city that spends half the year white. Salt City Mows and More works the other half out in De Witt, mowing on a weekly turn, trimming the tight corners a deck cannot reach, edging along drives and walks, and clearing the yard in spring and once more when the leaves have finished falling. Central New York summers are humid and quick, and grass here can put on a week's growth in four days flat. Staying ahead of it, and leaving straight lines behind, is the craft. A neat lawn on a warm July evening is an ordinary, genuinely good thing.
