Bullville is a crossroads and a couple of steeples, and the Dwaar Kill slides past it under the willows without much comment. Crawford Lawn & Garden starts early out there, when the grass is still bent with dew and the mower leaves a darker line behind it. Mowing, edging, trimming, spring and fall cleanups — the work is plain, and the pleasure is in the finish: borders true along the walks, beds free of last week's leaves. Around here a well-kept yard is a kind of manners. The town of Crawford has a good deal of manners in it.
