Snow Warden

About Snow Warden

The Hudson Highlands make a funnel of the river valley, and when a nor'easter comes up it, Cornwall gets the wind along with the snow. Snow Warden keeps watch on those nights — plowing driveways and lots, shoveling walks and steps, spreading salt and sand while the town sleeps toward a three-in-the-morning that looks like nothing at all. Ice under the new fall is the real work; the shovel is only the last of it. By the time headlights come on down the block, the pavement is dark and the banks are back off the apron. Winter asks a plain question in this valley, and the answer is being out in it.
