Constableville sits under the Tug Hill, which means snow measured in feet and a winter that doesn't end so much as relent. JoeMows works both ends of it — plowing driveways, opening turnarounds and walks, salting the ice hiding under all that white, then mowing, trimming and tidying yards once the Sugar River runs clear again. Storms off Ontario can bury a driveway between supper and bedtime, so clearing is a repeated act rather than a single one. When the sugarbush runs in March the banks are still shoulder-high and grass is only a rumor. Come July those same properties are green and cut, which is its own kind of reward.
