September on Cold Spring Harbor is the good stretch — the water flat and bright, the heat gone out of the afternoons, the lawns coming back strong after August. The Greenskeeper Lawn System keeps North Shore properties in that condition right through the growing months: even mowing, trimming worked in close along walls and plantings, edges cut clean where turf meets drive, and cleanups when the oaks let go. Salt air and sandy ground make their own demands on grass, and answering them takes a regular hand rather than a heroic one. There is a real pleasure in a lawn that looks composed from the road and feels soft underfoot within sight of the harbor. Around here, that is worth doing right.
