Lawn and Order

About Lawn and Order

Out toward Sullivanville the lawns run long and the deer treat them as an open invitation, so somebody has to keep order. Lawn and Order mows a set route through Veteran — cutting, string trimming, edging, and hauling clippings so nothing mats down in the July heat. Chemung County summers get heavy and still; the work goes best before noon, while the air is still moving. The pleasure of it is geometry: parallel passes, a turn that doesn't scuff, a finished yard that looks like a decision instead of an accident. Come evening the fireflies take the field back over.
