Down at the City Pier the boathouses stand out over the water on their pilings, and the lawns behind them run right to the shore. Lakeview Lawn & Landscape Inc works both halves of Canandaigua's year: mowing, trimming, edging and landscape upkeep from thaw to leaf-fall, then plowing and shoveling once the drives ice over. Lakeside properties keep their own rules — wind off the water, soft ground in spring, drifting that piles wherever a hedge stops it. Summer means grass held short and even to the last foot before the seawall; winter means an open drive before the day starts. The lake stays dark and unfrozen in January while the town goes white around it, and the work simply changes shape.
