O'Donnell Landscapes

About O'Donnell Landscapes

The wind off Lake Erie crosses the old flats at Lackawanna with nothing in its way, and by five in the morning it has laid a fresh drift over every lot and driveway near Ridge Road. O'Donnell Landscapes goes out into it. Plowing, hand-clearing walks and steps, salting the entryways where ice sets in a sheet — the routine of a Buffalo winter, run over and over. The measure of a night is simple: the first car out rolls away without slowing down. Under the basilica dome and the streetlights, the route keeps going until it is finished.
