The name fits the work: much of Brooklyn cannot be plowed, only walked. On the brownstone blocks of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Foot Soldiers, LLC goes stoop to stoop through the night with shovels and spreaders, cutting paths across sidewalks, down stairs, out to the curb where the car doors have to open. Snow comes down quietly over the row-house roofs and they are under it long before the first alternate-side sign matters. Walks, entries, steps and building frontages get cleared, then salted so morning does not undo the night. Dawn finds the street usable, which is the entire point.
