At three in the morning the North Side belongs to the streetlights and the plow. ATS Construction runs the blade down while the ramps off I-81 go white and the climb up Brandywine disappears into the dark. Plowing, driveway and lot clearing, walkways opened to bare pavement, salt laid where ice means to set — this is winter work in a valley that catches whatever weather comes east. By the time a kitchen window lights up, the drive is a clean rectangle and the mailbox stands in open air. The day starts without a shovel in it, and that is the entire ambition.
