October is the honest month in Big Flats. The maples on the old orchard slopes above town go copper for a couple of weeks, then send the whole business down onto everybody's grass at once. Taylor Landscaping Services spends those short afternoons blowing, raking and hauling leaves out of lawns and bed corners, cutting the grass one last time low and clean, and cutting a sharp edge along the drive before the ground stiffens. The rest of the year runs greener and steadier — weekly mowing, trimming, edging, fresh mulch worked in around the plantings. Either way the aim is the same: a yard somebody is glad to pull into.
