Out at Denning's Point the Hudson pushes plates of ice past the ledge rock, and the wind off the water finds every gap in a coat. StoneLedge Contracting works the winter side of Beacon — plowing driveways and lots, shoveling walks and steps, salting wherever the freeze keeps coming back for another try. Ledge, gravel and blacktop each take a plow differently, and knowing which one is under the blade is what keeps a drive intact until April. The aim is early and complete: opened before the first alarm, cleaned along the edges, treated so the second cold night cannot undo it. A cleared property on a raw river morning is a quiet kind of good work.
