Mint Lawns

About Mint Lawns

There is a smell that belongs to a June morning in Amenia — cut grass, wet limestone, hayfields warming east toward Cascade Mountain. Mint Lawns is out in it early, while dew still weighs the blades down and the cut comes off clean. Mowing, string trimming, sharp lines along walks and drives, mulch tucked back into the beds, and the small corrections that keep a lawn even instead of scalped and patchy. Autumn means leaves off the turf before they mat down; spring means bringing a yard back after the valley's long gray stretch. It is simple work done attentively, and it shows in a lawn that stays even, green and neatly bounded all summer.
